Ryuzaki Sakuno grew up knowing she was meant to be a mutant.

She was born in Toyko, the grandaughter of Ryuzaki Sumire, a powerful precognitive mutant. Before Sakuno's birth, Sumire informed her human son Seiichirou, and his wife, Saki, that their daughter would be a mutant as well. Although they were afraid of raising their child in a world dangerous for mutants, Sakuno's parents embraced her predicted future, promising to give her training up to Sumire when she was old enough.

Thus Sakuno was prepared during her childhood for what awaited her. Her parents shielded her from little of what was going on in the world, often discussing with her events and tragedies that were happening to mutants and humans alike. She grew up empathizing with both sides and the desire to make a difference. She also grew up with having a very close relationship with her grandmother, and learned even more from her as a result.

Despite her parents both being teachers, they decided to socialize her in Tokyo's public schools, as a way to gain even more perspective. Her school years passed without incident, and despite being a little timid and shy around others, she easily made lots of human friends with her eager and pleasing personality. Then, when she hit puberty just before her thirteenth birthday, she simply vanished during breakfast.

Only she hadn't gone away. Her body had vanished from sight, even as she sat at the table and ate. She wasn't aware of anything being wrong until both of her parents dropped their chopsticks and stared as her own seemed to move of their own accord in midair, the food disappearing from them. They been expecting this, but the reality of it was still shocking.

Sakuno was promptly taken out of public school, spending the rest of that school year and summer vacation with her Grandmother, who had just returned from America. During this time, she began training herself under her Grandmother's watchful eye, and in turn learning about Ryuhana and Sumire's private project, X-Corp.

X-Corp and its ideals spoke to Sakuno from the very start. She had grown up watching the bitter battle between human and mutant, of governments and special bands of mutants, all ultimately vying for ways to end the skirmishes and, in her eyes, understand one another. For the first time in her life, Sakuno felt she knew where her place was to be, and a deep ambition to make it happen.

However, she was bluntly turned down when she asked her Grandmother to allow her to join X-Corp immediately. Explaining to Sakuno that she needed a better understanding of her powers, and the control and knowledge to put them to good use, Sumire convinced her granddaughter to enroll into Ryuhana, promising that X-Corp would be waiting.

Nervous about entering an all-mutant school after only experiencing human ones her whole life, Sakuno nonetheless threw herself into learning. She excelled at her studies easily, her parents both being teachers. She also worked at her control very hard, often staying with her Grandmother during vacations and holidays where she could to further her training. Sakuno took an instant liking to Ryuhana headmaster, Hanamura Aoi, as well, often offering her help and requesting training from the telepath.

Getting along with her peers didn't come as easily to her this time around as it was to befriend the adults, until she met Osakada Tomoka and Shishido Ryou. She became fast friends with both of them, even going so far as dating Shishido briefly during their second year. Through them, she became friendly with others as well, but some of her other classmates found her adherence to being polite childish, and her attachments to her teachers as sucking up. She bore the teasing and 'teacher's pet' label quietly and stayed closer to her friends, the two people that stuck up for her without question. Before she knew it, graduation had come, and Shishido and Tomo were leaving for their own ambitions: X-Prime.

Torn between staying with her friends and joining X-Prime with them, or returning to her Grandmother and X-Corp, she sought Sumire's advice. When her Grandmother would tell her nothing, she realized it was a decision she'd have to make herself, and though it was hard to see her friends move on without her, she returned to join X-Corp, as she'd always planned.

Now, with graduation behind her and her future before her, Sakuno is just beginning her life at X-Corp. She is starting as a liason for X-Corp and Ryuhana, and has been serving as her Grandmother's unofficial administrative assistant since her departure from school. She resides at her Grandmother's house because of its convenience, and looks forward to her job, eager to learn everything about X-Corp.

Personality:

By nature, Sakuno is something of an introvert. She's come a long way through her friendships with Shishido Ryou and most epecially Osakada Tomoka, but at heart she's still a very shy girl that is easily flustered. She hides it better now through her drive to appear professional, and as someone representing X-Corp. She has a sweet disposition and is always eager to help someone, no matter how little the need, but the years spent with her grandmother have given her more of a backbone, and she realizes now how important it is for people to do for themselves. This doesn't stop her from being a veritable welcome wagon to new people she meets, but she falls short of being a door mat that others can take advantage of.

She has an easy sense of humor that borders on teasing with people she's closest to. Traditional Japanese manners have been ingrained in her, so it initially takes her a little time to adapt to informality with new people, especially in a professional capacity. She does have a hard time knowing what to do in social situations where people confront her or threaten her, and takes pains to steer clear of anyone that doesn't like her for whatever reason, or are just unnessecarily temperamental. She's not given to being confrontational herself; in fact, she abhors the idea. If things can't be solved with tea and a nice talk, she's at a loss. This puts her at a disadvantage in most social settings, especially in her chosen career, but its also a factor in her decision to start as a liason, hoping that she can at least learn ways to become more assertive in the face of negative emotion, if not overcome the handicap.

Her hobbies reflect her quiet nature, consisting of gardening, curling up with a good book and writing little poems in a journal. In the past she has been known to volunteer her time at local libraries, reading to children, and shelters, rather than doing nothing on her personal vacations.

Powers:

Sakuno's powers are very much like Sue Storm's, the original Invisible Woman of Fantastic Four fame. She has the ability to become invisible at will, and affect the visibility of things around her. Breaking it down further, her power is a psionically based one, as it is her mind that can control and bend the light particles and rays around her. Presently she can also affect objects or other people, but only through direct contact. (i.e., she must be touching it/them)

Limitations:

Sakuno's power is presently not an offensive one. She cannot cause direct harm with it, even intentionally. While invisible to the naked eye, she still retains the same physical components of her body, and can be detected by her body heat if one has the equipment/capability. In no way can her body become intangible or change properties. Simply put, she's not a ghost, she can't walk through walls or floors or anything like that. She just turns invisible. In times of acute stress, she can instinctively turn invisible, and may have difficulty becoming visible again until she's calmed down. Her ability to affect the visibility of things or others depends on how much contact she has with them at the moment. It requires her touch, used as an extension of the light particles around her own body. During the early days of her powers, anything touching her body did not disappear, therefore to be completely invisible, she had to be naked. This was pure embarrassment for her, but she trained hard enough to soon be able to make her clothing disappear with her body, preventing future humiliation.

Progression:

If her training and desire to control more of her power continues as vigorously as it started, Sakuno can most likely develop more control over light particles, forming invisible barriers or short bursts of invisible force that would make her power more balanced with offensive capabilities. As she ages, this control can only grow stonger, but only as long as she stays more or less vigilant with her practice.
